Dog inherits from Animal, so Dog.__init__ is inherited and self.name is set to 'Rex'. Dog overrides the speak() method - Python's method resolution checks the instance's class first. super() would be used if Dog's __init__ needed to call Animal's __init__ explicitly, e.g., super().__init__(name). Here it is not needed because Dog does not define its own __init__.
