lambda p: p[1] extracts the second element (age) from each tuple as the sort key. Sorted by age: Bob(25), Alice(30), Carol(35). sorted_people[0] is ('Bob', 25), and [0] on that is 'Bob'. This pattern - sorting a list of tuples or dicts by a specific field - is one of the most common uses of lambda in data work.
