The first next() call resumes the generator, yields 42, and pauses. The second next() resumes it again, but there are no more yield statements - the function returns, which internally raises StopIteration. A for loop handles StopIteration automatically; calling next() directly means you are responsible for catching it when the generator is exhausted.
